There are many reasons to add a website to your business plan. Let's consider how many Americans are on the Internet today. That would be over 75% of us. And they are not just doing email, watching videos and sending jokes to friends. They are researching (finding) products and businesses they are interested in purchasing or doing business with.
Today over 60% of purchasers are doing online research before the purchase. And it does not matter if they are going to buy off line or online. They still research online first.
Who do searchers find on the Internet?
Well if they don't find you and/or your products, then they will find your competition. You don't want that to happen. And this is true for local businesses as well as national and international businesses.

A local search is just like any other search except a destination is added to the search. For example you might be interested in a canoe. You might open you browser and go to Google. Then type canoe into the search box and hit enter. You would find millions of pages about canoes. But you want to see and touch one. So you add "+ location" to your search term so it might look like canoe + Dallas. Or what ever town you live in. Now the results are localized to your community.
Your business might show up on the first search (canoe). But if you want local business you need to show up on the second search (canoe+Dallas).
Remember if they don't find you they will find your competitors.
What about ads
Ads in newspapers, magazines, TV and radio still work. But their audience is decreasing all the time. Fewer people are reading the newspaper or magazines. And people skip or leave during the commercials on TV and radio.
With 75% of Americans actively using the Internet, can you afford not to be there?
Product Search
Another important point is that people searching for a product are not just looking to find where they can buy it. They are looking for the benefits that product will give them, pricing, warranties. They want to know about your business and its customer service. And finally if they want to buy in person, they need good directions to your store.
All of that can be on your website for anyone to read, any time of the day and any day of the year. And if you sell online, your store is now open 24/7.
Rather than ask "Why Your Business Needs Online Visibility", you should ask "How Can I Afford Not to be Online".
